When Denver Botanic Gardens became the backdrop for Gus and Kat’s proposal, I already knew it was going to be something special. Gus and I had been secretly planning this moment together for almost a month before it finally happened, and getting to help bring someone’s dream proposal to life is genuinely one of the greatest honors as a photographer. What made it even sweeter was that they flew all the way from Indiana to Colorado for this moment together.

From the second we started planning, it was obvious how much Gus adores Kat. After four years together, countless memories, surviving college together, and Gus graduating from law school last year, the timing finally felt right. He talked about her not only as his girlfriend, but as his best friend, someone he couldn’t imagine going a single day without. Hearing how he described their relationship made me even more excited to capture such an important chapter in their lives.

The proposal itself could not have been more perfect. Kat had a feeling it might happen soon, but nothing compares to the real moment. The excitement in her voice when Gus got down on one knee was something I’ll never forget. She didn’t hesitate for even a second before saying yes, and honestly, you could feel the emotion radiating off both of them. One of my favorite parts of proposal photography is getting to witness people completely forget the world around them for a few moments, and that absolutely happened here.

It also happened to be my very first shoot at the Denver Botanic Gardens, and I honestly could not have asked for a better couple to experience it with. Between the beautiful greenery, flowers, soft pathways, and the way the two of them naturally interacted together, everything felt effortless. They spent the entire session laughing, holding each other close, and just genuinely enjoying being together. It never felt posed; it felt real.

Gus and Kat, thank you for trusting me with one of the biggest moments of your lives. It was such an honor getting to celebrate alongside you both, and I truly hope when you look back at these photos 20 years from now, you remember exactly how this moment felt.
